Background

Telugu Ladies’ Club (TLC) was established in 2001 by a group of like-minded people to provide support to Telugu women in Melbourne, especially to the newly arrived. As a self-run community support group, TLC gained the cooperation and encouragement of the Telugu community allowing to extend support services to the increasing number of Telugu women in Melbourne. In 2010, TLC has entered into a formal auspice arrangement with the Telugu Association of Australia Inc (TAAI). The purpose of this arrangement was to provide complimentary activities for Telugu people in Melbourne as well as to strengthen TAAI as a community organisation.

Our Vision

To provide opportunities for Telugu women to meet regularly in order to extend friendship and support each other, as well as to share information and organise events amongst the community. We believe this will help empower women in Melbourne as well as strengthen TLC's relationship with the Telugu community.

Activities

Some of the key activities that TLC provides are health and well-being sessions, financial management workshops and various social activities. We organise a TLC flagship event which is an annual fundraising walk that takes place at the beginning of each year. Additionally, we host the couples annual dinner dance, a highly popular event organised biannually.

Women's Support Services

TLC provides services to women who are affected by family violence. We have a Healthy Relationships Ambassador (formally trained and accredited) working  with women that come forward for assistance within the Telugu community. The Ambassador provides moral support, advocacy information and referrals. For further information please contact Vijaya Tangirala.
